Parts of Northland could be in for a stormy afternoon.
MetService has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for inland and western parts of the region, south of Kaitaia.
It said scattered thunderstorms with localised heavy rain are expected between 4 and 9pm.
The storm could cause surface or flash flooding and slips, especially near streams, rivers or narrow valleys.
