Police are appealing for sightings of several items of interest in relation to a missing fisherman in Tōrere.
In a statement, police said they were notified at 4pm today that a man had failed to return from a fishing trip as expected.
An extensive marine and aerial search of the area was then conducted with assistance from the Coastguard and Surf Life Saving.
However, police said efforts to locate the man were unsuccessful and the search would continue on Tuesday morning.
Police listed a number of items of interest in relation to the search including a 100-litre white chilly bin, a red tote tank, wooden oars and a yellow life jacket.
