An investigation is underway to identify a man who was found dead on a road in the South Auckland suburb of Favona in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Wakefield Road at about 3.30am after the body was found.
A police spokesperson said inquiries are underway to establish how the man died, including speaking to witnesses in the area at the time.
A scene examination has been carried out and the road is now open.
