A multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 1 has caused injuries and closed the road near Ōtaki for five hours.
The crash happened about 6.15am and involved four vehicles, police said. Emergency services were there and injuries were reported.
A helicopter was sent to the scene along with emergency services, Waka Kotahi said.
The highway was blocked at Forest Lakes Road, and diversions put in place, for five hours, before reopening abount 11am.
Motorists had been asked to avoid the area and warned to expect significant delays.

Meanwhile on SH2 near Belmont in the Hutt Valley, a serious crash had closed southbound lane near the Kennedy Good bridge intersection.
The road reopened shortly after 7am
