A 36-year-old man has appeared in the Lower Hutt District Court in relation to the fatal hit-and-run in Naenae last week.
Lower Hutt woman Anita Rani, 62, died at the scene of the crash early on the morning of Thursday 16 November.
The man accused of causing the crash was arrested by police at a Lower Hutt property on Friday morning.
Three charges have been filed against him: Dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop to ascertain injury, and driving a vehicle while disqualified.
On Friday afternoon, the man entered the courtroom in bare feet, baggy shorts and hoodie. He was quiet throughout his appearance.
His defence counsel did not seek bail but she did ask for interim name suppression, which Judge Barbara Morris granted.
The man will next appear in court on Thursday 14 December.
