Police in Whakatāne have launched a homicide investigation after the death of a man in his 20s last night.
The man was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries around 9.40pm on Sunday and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Police have appealed to the public for information as they try and work out how he was injured.
They believe he might have suffered his injuries in the town of Tāneatua, south of Whakatāne, and officers are making some inquiries there today.
