A 37-year-old man is due to appear in Whanganui District Court today facing a charge of murder.
Detective Inspector Craig Sheridan said police were called to Makohine Lane in the small Rangitikei township of Ōhingaiti, near State Highway 1, just before 3.30am on Sunday.
He later died in Whanganui Hospital.
Police were not looking for anyone else in relation to the death, however, inquiries into the exact circumstances of what happened were continuing, Sheridan said.
