The number of people involved in a crash on State Highway 3 in Eltham today remains unclear and the Disaster Victim Identification unit is on the scene.
The crash at the intersection of Mountain Road and Boylan Road on SH3 took place shortly before 6am.
At this stage, police said it remained unclear how many people were in one of the vehicles, and wider enquiries were being conducted.
An examination of the vehicle was underway, and the road was expected to be closed for a few more hours.
Both the Disaster Victim Identification unit and the Serious Crash Unit were at the scene.
