A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle in Oamaru.
Police said the incident, on State Highway 1, was reported about 5.55pm Sunday.
"Sadly, the pedestrian passed away at the scene."
The serious crash unit was there and the road was closed between Fernbrook Road and Redcastle Road, police said.
"An investigation into the crash to determine what happened is underway."
Diversions were in place and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
