A homicide investigation has been launched after a man was found dead in the middle of an East Auckland road at the weekend.
The man's body was found on Point England Road at about 11.15pm on Saturday.
Police on Monday said they were speaking with witnesses who were at the scene. No arrests have yet been made.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greaves said the man suffered multiple injuries, and was believed to have been run over by his own vehicle, before it was stolen.
He said the vehicle was recovered on Sunday morning, and was undergoing forensic examination.
A post-mortem has been completed and a formal identification was expected to be carried out over the coming days.
