A body has been found in the water near the coastal Lower Hutt suburb of Eastbourne.
Police said they recovered the body of a man from the water near Muritai Road, at Point Arthur.
A person saw the man in the water about 9.40am on Labour Day.
Police said formal identification could take some time and they could not offer any more information at this stage.
