As the weather heats up and a firefighters battle a blaze in Canterbury, further regions have had fire restrictions put in place.
Almost all of the east coast of Wairapara entered a restricted fire season from 8am Friday. It remained in place until further notice.
Wellington District Community Risk Manager Phil Soal said Wairarapa was rapidly drying out and temperatures were set to soar over the next week.
South Wairarapa, Central Otago and Upper Waitaki moved into restricted fire seasons on Monday, and Bay of Plenty on Thursday.
MetService meteorologist John Law it was looking like it would be a hot and dry summer and people should avoid activities with the potential of creating a spark.

"As we go through into the summertime, particularly those areas across the eastern parts of New Zealand… tend to be the warmer spots as well."
A restricted fire season meant anyone who wanted to light an open-air fire would need to obtain a permit first, which could be applied for at checkitsalright.nz.
