Gun fired from car outside Auckland's Middlemore Hospital prompts police investigation

A police investigation is underway after an incident involving a gun being fired in the carpark of Auckland's Middlemore Hospital over the weekend.

Police have said a report was received shortly after 6.30pm on Saturday after a gun had been fired from a car in the carpark.

No-one was injured, police said.

Health New Zealand Counties Manukau said it was working with police following the incident.

Its acting group director of operations, Dana Ralph-Smith said there was no on-going risk to the safety of patients and their whānau.

Smith said it would be "inappropriate" to comment further on what happened as police were investigating.
