Taupō wildfire now under now under control - FENZ

Fire and Emergency crews have contained a vegetation fire in the Tahorakuri Forest, 20 kilometres north of Taupō.

Emergency services were called to the fire on Te Toke Road in the Tahorakuri Forest area shortly before 1pm on Wednesday.

Fire and Emergency said the fire was now under control, and while the blaze did reach a size of approximately four hectares earlier in the day, it is now 70 percent contained, and no longer spreading.

Twelve trucks, tankers and support vehicles were at the scene along wirth three helicopters working to contain the fire from the air.

Fire and Emergency said a third helicopter was heading to the fire to assist.

Earlier, the police said they had been helping firefighters set up cordons.

A spokesperson said it did not appear any evacuations were required at this time.
