Health New Zealand have launched an internal review after a man died following an altercation with another person at Hutt Hospital.
The man was taken to Wellington hospital with a brain injury on 27 December.
Police said they were working to determine the full circumstances of what occurred and their investigation remained ongoing.
Te Whatu Ora, Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley operations group director Jamie Duncan said its staff were working closely with police on the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
"Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley is also carrying out an internal review."
Duncan said it acknowledges the grief and loss the man's family were experiencing, and would continue to offer all the support it could.
"We again extend our sincerest sympathies to them."
