A cyclist hit and killed by a car in Hastings was an 11-year-old girl, police say
The girl died died at the scene after the crash on Chatham Road in Flaxmere about 6pm on Thursday.
A 34-year-old woman has been charged with driving in a dangerous manner, and will appear in Hastings District Court.
Police say they were not in pursuit of the vehicle.
They are making enquiries into the crash and further have not ruled out further charges.
Tributes are flowing on social media, with more than 100 comments describing it as a tragedy and sending their thoughts to the whānau.
