Police in Southland are investigating the origin of a threatening email sent to several schools in the region on Wednesday night.
Officers were notified about the email at about 8.30pm.
Police said extensive enquiries were carried out, including staff visiting several of the places mentioned.
"Police are now confident the email was a hoax, and that the person implicated in the email as responsible was not involved," a police spokesperson said.
"Additional staff will be on patrol this morning to provide reassurance to school communities.
"Enquiries into the origins of the email are ongoing."
