A person has died after a crash on State Highway 10 in the Far North last night.
Police said they were called to the crash in Kaingaroa at about 10.40pm Wednesday.
They said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
The forestry company says the man was clearing a drain when the excavator became submerged.
A man whose disappearance sparked a major search late last year has been found dead.
One person is in a critical condition.
The motorcyclist died in hospital after the 28 January crash just north of State Highway 29.
