A man has been arrested after a stabbing on Auckland's North Shore earlier this month.

A Birkenhead resident was critically injured after being stabbed multiple times on 4 February.

A 26-year-old has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after police searched a house in Northcote on Saturday.

He was set to appear in the North Shore District Court on Monday, where police said they would oppose his bail.

"We would like to thank the members of the public for their assistance and information provided that assisted our investigation," Detective Sergeant Matt Bartlett said.

"I would like to acknowledge the various police teams who have worked tirelessly on this case, as part of our ongoing dedication to holding offenders to account."
