A student has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition and another is in custody after an assault near their school in Napier.
Emergency services were called to Morris Spence Ave in Onekawa, near William Colenso College, at around 8:20am.
Hato Hone St John said it sent one rapid response unit, one operations manager, and one ambulance to the scene.
One patient has been transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital in a serious condition.
William Colenso College principal Jocelyn Auld said on social media the assault took place outside the shop in Morris Spence Ave.
"This incident resulted in the school calling an ambulance to transport one student to hospital and one student was escorted to the Police Station. Whanau with students involved have been notified and are supporting their students," Auld wrote.
"All students are safe and the situation is being followed up by the appropriate authorities. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our immediate priority."
Police said a person had been taken into custody and officers were investigating the circumstances of the incident.
