A man has been charged with aggravated robbery after a person was reportedly robbed of medication in Wellington.

Police were notified shortly before 9am on Thursday that medication had being stolen from a person walking on Broadway in Strathmore.

A police spokesperson said cordons were put in place while officers searched the area for the alleged offender.

Police said a man was arrested on Monorgan Road a short time later.

The 23-year-old is due to appear in Wellington District Court.

Police said the victim may have been a delivery driver.

Workers nearby described seeing "heaps" of police cars, as well as police dog units, and officers talking to members of the public.

One person said it was all "a bit of a shock".

Earlier on Thursday, an RNZ staffer said they saw at least half a dozen police cars with lights flashing heading towards Wellington's eastern suburbs.
