The body of a man who went missing in the water near Wairere Falls has been found by a police search and rescue team.
The man was seen falling into the river near Wairere Falls northeast of Matamata just before midday yesterday.
The person who saw the man fall tried to help, but could not reach him in time.
Police confirmed the man's body was recovered late this afternoon.
"Our thoughts are with the man's family at this very sad time."
