A child has been taken to Christchurch hospital in a critical condition after a crash.
Police were called to Fitzgerald Avenue near the central city at 2.15pm on Saturday, when pedestrians were struck by a vehicle.
The young person and an adult in a serious condition were taken to hospital. Both were reportedly in a stable condition on Sunday morning.
Five people were hurt in total.
The serious crash unit attended the scene.
Improvements
A Christchurch city councillor says safety improvements are being looked at for the site.
Central Ward councillor Jake McLellan said the council was looking at roading changes nearby.
"I suspect there there are design improvements that could be made… I imagine that there could be enhancements that we should look at least look at on Hereford Street as well."
Hereford Street intersects with Fitzgerald Avenue.
McLellan said it was horrible to hear about the accident.
