Health New Zealand says a loud bang that rang out across parts of the city this morning was caused by a Wellington Hospital generator backfiring.
Fire crews were called to Wellington Regional Hospital at about 10am on Thursday after reports of a loud bang, which they say was a false alarm.
Wellingtonians in several parts of the city reported hearing the bang.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said it was a false alarm, and they didn't know what caused the bang.
Health New Zealand told RNZ the generator backfired during a testing procedure, but everyone is safe and services have not been disrupted.
