The race for Auckland's mayoralty has stepped up a notch with campaign billboards of the main candidates appearing across the city this week.
A spokesperson for the incumbent mayor Wayne Brown's campaign told RNZ that their mostly digital billboards went up across the Tāmaki Makaurau isthmus on Monday.
The billboards featuring a beaming Brown and his Fix Auckland! branding will appear on and off in about 20 different locations, including Manukau, Westgate, and the CBD.

Kerrin Leoni, the Auckland councillor challenging Brown for the mayoralty, told RNZ she had at least three billboards going up on Tuesday covering the North Shore, West Auckland, and South Auckland.
She said her campaign also had 400,000 flyers to distribute.
"It's difficult at the moment because people don't know that there is an election happening and that voting papers are coming out next week.
"We're doing regular door knocking, and a number of churches are supporting our campaign and have taken boxes of flyers to distribute.
"We've made sure we have at least 20,000 flyers for each local board area."
The candidates' billboards were in addition to their smaller hoardings put up last month.
