The NZ Transport Agency says strong winds mean lower speed limits are now in place on the Auckland Harbour Bridge on Wednesday.
The reduced speeds which took effect before midday will stay in place until further notice, the agency says.
The wind gusts are expected to worsen between 5pm and 9pm and more speed restctions and lane reductions are possible, the agency says.
"Temporary full closures may be required if severe winds gust over 90km/h."
Motorists are asked to consider using the Western Ring Route (SH16 and SH18) as an alternative route.
NZTA is asking drivers to be cautious and expect delays. Those with high-sided vehicles and motorcyclists need to be especially careful.
