Highways are closed and some schools are shut as rain hammering the central North Island causes slips and flooding.
Slips in Awakino Gorge have left vehicles stuck and farmland flooded.
State highways 3, 4, 30, 31 and 43 in the New Plymouth, Ruapehu, Waitomo areas are closed due to multiple slips and flooding. Some areas were not able to be accessed, and some schools were closed.
Ohura, Matiere and Tokorima townships in northern Ruapehu were isolated.
