Forensic experts are back at a house in the Tararua town of Pahiatua, after the suspicious death of a woman this week.
Her body was found at a property on Arthur Street on Wednesday.
Police are asking for reports of any suspicious activity or sightings of a man they believe is possibly involved.
They said he was aged between 40 and 50, had a solid build and may have been in the Tarawera Road area from Wednesday.
It was not clear whether he was still in the area or nearby, they said.
A car taken from the Arthur Street house was found abandoned at the Blue and Green Lakes Lookout on Tarawera Road in Rotorua and would undergo a forensic examination.
It was the victim's red, late-model Mitsubishi ASX VRX station wagon, registration QGU91.
A post-mortem was also due to take place on Friday.
Police said inquiries were ongoing at various locations in Pahiatua and the wider Tararua area this week and next.
