A person has died after a car went into a river in Waikato, police said.
A police spokesperson said they were alerted to a car that had gone into a river near Te Pahu Road in Whatawhata at about 5.15pm on Friday.
"Sadly, after the vehicle was removed, one person was located deceased."
The road remains closed while the Serious Crash Unit conducts a scene examination.
