The once safe Labour seat of Christchurch Central has again gone blue and this time with an increased majority.
Sitting MP Nicky Wagner, scraped in for National by just 47 votes last election, but last night she increased her majority to 2,168.
Ms Wagner said the difficulties faced by many as a result of the earthquakes are not affecting the support for National.
She said there will always be some people whose homes will be repaired last and she feels for them, but National has been working hard in Christchurch, and she will continue working hard to ensure Christchurch Central remains a blue seat.
National's Ilam candidate Gerry Brownlee said campaigns in Christchurch were focused on the party vote, which had paid off.
Mr Brownlee said the votes indicate confidence in the Government's role within the city's rebuild.
