The government is poised to announce its new Reserve Bank governor - with an announcement planned for Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Bloomberg reported, citing an unidentified person familiar with the matter, that New Zealand would appoint a woman to head the RBNZ for the first time.
Bloomberg News did not identify the new governor but said it could be a foreign appointment.
Interim governor Christian Hawkesby has been acting in the top role at the central bank since the surprise resignation of Adrian Orr in March.
Much attention has focused on who will assume the position given its importance - and the rocky relationship the government had with Orr.
Finance Minister Nicola Willis' office would not comment on the report.
