A $5 million Food Safety Science and Research Centre is to be set up at Massey University.
Establishing the centre was one of the main recommendations from the Government's inquiry into the botulism-related global food safety scare Fonterra caused last year.
The Government invited seven organisations to apply to run the centre - including Auckland, Massey and Otago universities, Plant and Food and AgResearch, the Cawthron Institute and the Institute of Environmental Science and Research.
The centre is expected to open next year.
