Russell Westbrook again led OKC's offence scoring 47 points, taking 11 rebounds and making nine assists.
They rallied from an 11-point third-quarter deficit to lead by five heading into the final quarter but with Westbrook sitting out the opening of the fourth quarter Houston bounced back to secure a five point lead.
Despite Westbrook returning to the fray, he was unable to provide the magic his side needed missing a series of shots as they eventually lost by six.
Adams played 39 minutes and finished with seven points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
