A team of 33 cyclists was confirmed in the New Zealand team on the weekend but Christie's name wasn't on the list.
Included in the team was former Olympic and world champion rower, Hamish Bond, and Takaka rider, Jack Bauer, the later was beaten by Christie at last month's National Road Cycling Championships in Napier.
The 27-year-old Christie is a two-time National Road Cycling champion but doesn't currently ride for a professional team.
Following last month's win, Christie publicly apologised when a photo appeared to show him giving the middle finger to his opponents as he won.
Christie told Radio New Zealand he will appeal his non selection to the New Zealand Sports Tribunal.
The New Zealand Road Cycling team is already missing World Tour riders George Bennett, Patrick Bevin, Sam Bewley and Tom Scully due to commitments with their professional teams.
