Hooker claimed a devastating first round knockout victory over Brazilian Gilbert Burns at UFC 226 in Las Vegas on Sunday (NZ time).
The win took the 28-year-old Kiwi lightweight's record to 4-0 since he stepped up a division from featherweight.
Hooker believed he deserved a shot at one of the lightweight division's best, but would have preferred if his win over Burns had been more hard-earned.
"You think I flew half way around the world and did an eight-week training camp for one minute of work.
"I do this for the challenge, I don't do it for the money. I'm not a stupid guy, there are ways I could make a lot more money outside of this sport.
"I do this to test myself and I sense that challenge inside the top 10, the best guys in the world."
The victory completes a superb weekend for New Zealand UFC fighters.
It came just a day after Hooker's team-mate at Auckland gym City Kickboxing, Israel Adesanya, gave his stocks a significant boost with a clinical points win over middleweight rival Brad Tavares.
