The much anticipated showdown between Australia and South Africa at the Champions Trophy never happened.

The Group B game in Rawalpindi was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of persistent rain.

The teams were awarded one point each.

South Africa top the pool on net run-rate from Australia with both teams on three points after winning their opening fixtures against Afghanistan and England respectively.

Afghanistan and England meet in Lahore on Wednesday, with the loser of that game eliminated from the competition.

If Australia and South Africa win their final group games against Afghanistan and England respectively, they will progress to the semi-finals as the top two in the group.

New Zealand and India top group A.

Those two teams meet in Dubai on Sunday.
