High-flying Wales football club Wrexham FC could play a game in New Zealand as part of a tour down under later this year.

Wrexham, which has been promoted three years in a row, is owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

Multiple reports in Australia say Wrexham will visit there to prepare for the start of the new English Championship season.

It is reported that Wrexham will play in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and New Zealand.

That could result in a game against either Auckland FC or the Wellington Phoenix. 9News in Australia reported that Wrexham would play Melbourne Victory at Marvel Stadium on 12 July and that Auckland would be the venue for their New Zealand match.

Wrexham FC is yet to release any details of a tour, with The New Zealand Herald reporting that a match in Aotearoa could be confirmed in the next couple of weeks.

That would be a coup for Auckland FC, whose fairytale inaugural season in the A-League has similarities to the rise of Wrexham since Reynolds and McElhenney took over the ownership reins.

Auckland FC were presented with the Premiers Plate after their win over Perth Glory on Sunday, for winning the premiership, ahead of the finals playoffs.

Wrexham are now just one tier away from the English Premier League after earning promotion to the English Championship after beating Charlton Athletic 3-0 win in a Football League game on Sunday.

"It just seemed like an impossible dream, and we do what we're lucky to do is be storytellers," Reynolds told Sky Sports after the game.
