Australian sailor Nathan Outteridge has been appointed as Peter Burling's replacement as skipper for Team New Zealand's next America's Cup defence.

Burling confirmed last month he would not be staying on for the 2027 edition after skippering them to success in Barcelona last year.

Outteridge has been with the team since 2018 and is part of a core group of five sailors confirmed for the next defence.

Blair Tuke, Andy Maloney and Sam Meech will all be returning while British sailor Chris Draper has also been signed-up.

Their specific roles are yet to be confirmed.

Draper was helmsman for Luna Rossa, Italy's America's cup challenger from 2011-2015.

Between 2015 and the Cup event in Bermuda in June 2017 he was part of the Softbank Team Japan.

He's also been involved with the Sail GP teams from Britain and Japan.
