New Zealand freestyle skier Jossi Wells slipped from medal contention at the Sochi Winter Olympics after being knocked from third place in the men's freestyle halfpipe.
The Wanaka skiier finished in fourth place with 85.6 points, while Mike Riddle of Canada slotted into third with 90.6 points.
After the first run, Wells had been in third place after a couple of higher ranked skiers fell. The result is based on the best score from the athlete's two runs.
Two other New Zealanders qualified for the final; Beau-James Wells who finished sixth and Lyndon Sheehan in ninth.
The selection of Jossi Wells and brothers Byron and Beau-James was the first time three siblings had been chosen for a New Zealand Olympic team.
Earlier, speed skater Shane Dobbin finished a creditable seventh in the 10,000 metres. Dobbin's goal had been a top eight finish.
