Alexander Flood is one of Australia’s most exciting young drummers, known for blending the energy of the dance club with the freedom of jazz. His music draws on electronic dance music genres like broken-beat, house, funk, and drum-and-bass, but it’s all played live.

The drive of dance music is filtered through improvisation, interaction, and groove. Expect hypnotic rhythms, rich textures, and music which changes and evolves as the players work together. But it’s a jazz gig too, so there’s also that element of individuality which is one of the hallmarks of jazz performance.

For this Wellington Jazz Festival concert, Alexander Flood is joined by Erica Tucceri on flute, Jake Amy on keyboards, and Dylan Paul on bass. Together, they create a sound that’s as much about movement as it is about listening.
