Australia and Fiji have signed an accord to allow workers from Fiji to join the seasonal worker scheme in Australia.
It is the latest development as contacts normalise following the lifting of sanctions after last year's return to democracy in Fiji.
As well as horticulture the seasonal workers could find employment in the accommodation, aquaculture, cane and cotton sectors.
The Australian commitment comes after a pilot group of 30 Fijian workers was sent to New Zealand as part of its larger Recognised Seasonal Employer scheme.
