Papua New Guinean and Australian police are in talks about returning to PNG for questioning three security guards from the Manus Island detention centre.
The Wilson Security guards are accused of raping an employee with detention centre operator Transfield at the asylum seeker centre.
Shortly after the alleged rape in July, the three ex-pats were flown out of the country.
The Guardian reports that one of the men said to the alleged victim he'd been taken off the island because he "got in trouble".
The Manus provincial police commander has demanded that the men be returned to face questioning, a call echoed by PNG's prime minister Peter O'Neill.
This week, the victim's father and supporters, armed with machetes, forcibly seized control of two vehicles owned by the detention centre.
Subsequently, the woman's family said Transfield promised the men's return.
Yesterday, Australia's immigration minister, Peter Dutton, said discussions were underway between PNG's police force and the Australian federal police, over the men's return.
