A Norfolk Island company that started an airlink to the island from Auckland just three months ago has stopped the service.
Norfolk Island Airlines withdrew because of increased costs.
Just weeks after they started flights the Australian government raised the departure tax by ten percent and then last month the Norfolk Regional Council announced it would be increasing its airport movement charges by nearly 100 percent.
The company said this, coupled with other unforeseen financial stresses, made the route unviable.
The flights had been started after Air New Zealand ended its direct from Auckland to Norfolk.
Norfolk Island Airlines said it will maintain its Norfolk to Brisbane route.
