A search is underway in the Cook Islands after a boy was reported missing overboard from an inter-island ferry near Aitutaki.
The Cook Islands News reports a police patrol boat and a number of local boats are involved in the search for the seven-year-old boy.
The alarm was raised by police at 8pm on Wednesday (local time), about a passenger missing from local vessel Lady Moana.
Police have confirmed the missing person is a boy, who was with his family as a passenger en route from Rakahanga.
Air Rarotonga is also playing a role in the search.
Police efforts are also being assisted by the Rescue Coordination Centre in New Zealand.
