Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister James Marape has assumed the role of leader of the Pangu Pati.
In April, Mr Marape led a group of MPs from the former ruling party, the People's National Congress, in moving to Pangu.
It was one of a series of upheavals in PNG's Parliament earlier this year which preceded the removal of Peter O'Neill as prime minister.
EMTV reports that Pangu's caucus met this week and agreed that Mr Marape would officially replace Morobe Governor, Ginson Saonu, as party leader.
Pangu, the country's oldest surviving political party, also recently replaced People's National Congress as the biggest party in Parliament.
