Four new Cabinet Ministers in Samoa have been sworn into their new roles by the country's Head of State, Tuimalealiʻifano Vaʻaletoʻa Sualauvi II.

Their appointments had been announced by the prime minister, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa.

The new Cabinets Ministers and their roles are:

  • Afioga iā Faleomavaega Titimaea Tafua, Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Labour.
  • Afioga iā Laga'aia Ti'aitu'au Tufuga , Minister of Women, Community, and Social Development
  • Tofā iā Mau'u Siaosi Pu'epu'emai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology portfolio.
  • Tofā iā Niu'ava Eti Malolo, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries

The recently sworn-in four replace the Cabinet ministers who were recently sacked by the prime minister.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Fiame said she made the changes to her Cabinet as she needed a good Cabinet.

"The question put to the three now terminated - 'do you have faith in me' - when it comes to confidence, I need to know that," she said.

One of those sacked earlier by the prime minister was La'auli Leuatea Schmidt as the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.

He is facing criminal charges.

Schmidt later said he accepted the decision for his termination from the role 'with a humble heart'.
