The Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) has launched a Bougainville Parliament YouTube Channel in its efforts "toward greater transparency and public engagement".
It is part of a Digital Democracy Project aimed at strengthening the connection between the government and its people.
Bougainville President Ishmael Toroama said that the project is more than just a technological advancement.
He said it is a commitment to open governance and accountability.
"The launch of the Bougainville Digital Democracy Project is not just about embracing technology; it is about empowering our citizens, strengthening accountability, and reinforcing the foundations of an independent Bougainville," Toroama said.
"This is your platform, your voice, your democracy," he added, and called on the people of Bougainville to actively engage with the new initiative.
The ABG said livestreaming of all parliamentary sessions of the Bougainville House of Representatives will ensure that citizens have direct access to legislative discussions and decisions.
"The Bougainville House of Representatives is the People's House, and now every citizen will have the opportunity to see and hear firsthand the discussions that shape our future," Toroama said.
"There will be no hidden agendas - our governance will be open for all to see. This is democracy in action."
Bougainville Speaker Simon Pentanu has welcomed the initiative.
"As Speaker, I serve as the head of the Bougainville House of Representatives, which is the legislative body representing our people," he said.
"It is my duty to ensure that parliamentary proceedings are conducted fairly, transparently, and in accordance with the will of the people of Bougainville," he stated.
"By livestreaming parliamentary sessions, we are ensuring that every Bougainvillean - whether in urban centers or remote communities - can witness the discussions and decisions that affect their lives.
"This builds trust between the government and the people, making governance more inclusive and participatory."
The government said Digital Democracy Project aligns with Bougainville's broader aspirations for independence by demonstrating readiness in governance, economic management, and social development.
