Tropical Cyclone Tam, a category 1 system, is located south of Vanuatu and moving away.

In the latest update from Fiji's Metservice, issued overnight, the cyclone was moving south-southeast at about 20 knots.

Sustained winds at the centre of the storm are expected to be 45 knots, or about 80km/h, decreasing to around 55 km/h on Wednesday.

The Fiji National Disaster Management Office has advised the public to stay vigilant and to refrain from crossing or swimming in rivers, streams, drains, roads, and walkways where water is above knee level.

It said the continuous rain over the past few days is also expected to cause landslides in some areas.

Meanwhile, Vanuatu's last warning on the system was issued Tuesday night and included weather alerts for Torba and Tafea provinces.

The Vanuatu Weather Office said it will reissue information if the system re-intensifies and moves back towards Vanuatu.
