Maori AI specialist:facial recognition software not accurate

A Maori specialist in artificial intelligence says it's only a matter of time before a Maori or Pasifika person is wrongfully arrested because of a false match on facial recognition software. Police are set to upgrade their Dataworks Plus system - despite multiple overseas studies which have found facial recognition software is less accurate at matching non-white faces. Karaitiana Taiuru, whose completed a PhD in indigenous ethics in data collection, says there a number of issues with the facial recognition upgrade.
