Plastic pollution in Lake Rotorua similar to levels in Europe
A global study has found plastic pollution in Lake Rotorua is similar to lakes in Europe and the United States where the population around the shore is much higher. The researchers who looked at 38 lakes across the world said there was plastic in every single one of them no matter how far it was from human activity. The small plastics can affect drinking water, and damage the aquatic creatures that call lakes home One of the authors of the paper is University of Waikato Associate Professor and freshwater ecologist Dr Deniz Özkundakci. He told Nathan Rarere about the nature of the plastic found in Lake Rotorua
